Whatcha got? Prizes awarded for highest and lowest scores! A friend of mine asked me this question today, as I’m now approaching the dawn of my 5th decade of life. Right now, my ratio is 9.75:1 (I’m 39 today and my car is a 4.0), and I made the joke that I should try to keep it below 10 for as long as I can - about time for that stroker...? So, OPPO, what’s your ratio? For those of you with multiple motors in your possession, keep it to one! If TwoWheelsGood, please add an asterisk.

4.19:1 , 26 and a 6.2L.

I love 1.6 so the ratio is only getting higher.

2.5L and 4.3L and 36 years so either
14.4 for the dd
8.37 for the toy
5.3 for the pair.

12.22:1
I’m 22, with a 1.8L engine
![]() 01/25/2017 at 11:35 |

26.875 for me
43 & 1.6

Is a high ratio a good thing or a bad thing?
At 25 with a 1.8 so my ratio is 13.9:1. Now I just need to get me one of these to lower my ratio:

20 years and 1.6L for 12.5:1.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 11:38 |

13.75, give or take a bit. I’m 38.5 and have a 2.8L. This should be interesting as I expect older members to generally have larger displacements and older cars.

21 and a 0.65L
32.3:1

An 80 year old with Caterham 160 would have a 121.2:1 ratio.
I want to be that man.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 11:40 |

33 / 2.5L = 13.2
33 / 4.2L = 7.86
If you want to get fancy and do a weighted average, it’s 9.85.

Biggest engine: ~28.80 years (at 365.25 days per year) / 1.839 l = 15.66 years per liter
Smallest engine, actual displacement: ~28.80 years / 1.798 l = 16.02 years per liter
Smallest engine, effective displacement (Atkinson cycle, 13:1 expansion, 8:1 effective compression): ~28.80 years / ((1.798 l / 13) * 8) = 31.87 years per liter

I’m sitting at 3.7:1 (17 with a 4.6).

I’m 39 and have four cars counting my Monte in storage and my wife’s Buick.
81 VW Scirocco S (1.7L) = 22.9
07 Lucerne (3.8L) = 10.3
00 Tahoe (5.3L) = 7.4
74 Monte Carlo (6.6L) = 5.9

![]() 01/25/2017 at 11:55 |

Going with the Cougar, since it’s more interesting than the Taco, I’m at 9.57:1 (45/4.7). Give it a year, and that displacement with grow, 347 stroker time!
![]() 01/25/2017 at 11:58 |

7.4.

37 with a 302...

![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:17 |

Haha - 38 was a good year. I did that wrong, anyway. I thought you were talking about two different engines and stupidly thought cc instead of cubic inches.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:18 |
|
17, even though I have an engine with above-average displacement (on this continent) while still being a millennial. Despite the 5 cars I own 17 is the best score I get. Granted, with two of them. The others are 21.25, 24.28 and 26.15.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:18 |

Since I cannot compete on the top end
*1985 Honda Aero (0.05L) = 5600!!
On the high end I’m
2000 540i (4.4L) = 6.36
![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:19 |

![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:21 |

Heh, no big. It should be good, by all accounts.
Sadly, no, I have but one car...
![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:29 |

Hahaha - YES! Two very good scores. I think you’ve got an extra zero in there, though! 560* still blows everyone else out of the water (until the old guy with a motorized scooter shows up).
![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:29 |
|
Several month ago, I had a ratio of 2.98:1, with the 350 the PO swapped in my truck (found out it wasn’t actually a 305 two days before I sold it).
![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:30 |

I wonder what the accepted multiple for a turbocharger should be. Maybe 1.4x displacement? That’d give you an 8.9.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:35 |
|
Ha, you got me, thought it seemed high!
Yes, as far as road legal motorized vehicles go it doesn’t get much less than 50cc so it going to have to be someone older than me :)
![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:40 |
|
Doesn’t matter to me, mines N/A.
1.4 is actually the standard displacement modifier for turbos for Rally America and the like.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:58 |
|
I’d go with relative boost in bar, plus 1 bar, as the modifier.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 12:59 |

Sub-3.0 is pretty bonkers. Like 25 yo old with a Viper.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 13:01 |
|
Now we’re getting serious.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 13:01 |
|
Bought my e30 at 22 so I was at 8.8:1 but that’s now at 10.2:1. WRX isn’t helping at 13:1.
I prefer horsepower to age as a ratio because there are some massive displacement engines that make very little actual power (Muricah!). That comes out to 10.3:1 for the Subie.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 13:04 |
|
Ah, screen name so deceiving!
1.4 seems a good average.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 13:11 |
|
Horsepower would give more “fair” ratios, for turbocharged & electric motors, but displacement sure netted some interesting ones!
I’m at like 11.5:1 HP/years with my M3.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 13:30 |

Sub-2.0 is even more nuts. I have a buddy who is 16 and fixing up a 500 cube Caddy with help from his uncle. His ratio is 1.95:1.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 13:40 |
|
oh you suck.
wait, does my 25CC mo-ped count?
![]() 01/25/2017 at 14:16 |

BRZ 2.0 = 17.5 HP/years
BMW 330i = 11.66repeating
C7 Grand Sport 6.2L = 5.645
*FZ-09 847cc = 41.32*
*SV650 645cc = 54.26*
![]() 01/25/2017 at 14:28 |

This is a fantastic stable, sir.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 14:40 |

Damn!
![]() 01/25/2017 at 14:42 |

400 hp / 550 lb-ft for sale in 1970 is crazy.
![]() 01/25/2017 at 14:59 |

Thank you! It is fun being able to jump from one vehicle to the other and see the drastic differences between them right away. Sadly the stable will be reduced by 2 soon, BRZ being sold to pay for the GS, and have to say goodbye to trusty SV650 for the FZ09.

Better to have loved and lost...
![]() 01/25/2017 at 15:20 |

Can I use a past time? If so I was 16 with an 8.1. So 1.975:1.
Now I’m 25 with a 1.8 and a 4.0, so 13.88:1 and 6.25:1.
![]() 01/30/2017 at 11:10 |

Wow! Sure, why not?
